WWE Icons

One of the biggest icons in wrestling took steroids and that is the one and only Hulk Hogan. He and the WWE confessed to be taking steroids for 13 years. Vince McMahon was also charged with disturbing steroids to wrestlers in 1993. McMahon was acquitted by a jury in U.S. District Court the following year. Former WWE champion Kurt Angle and other wrestlers allegedly received a wide variety of anabolic steroids supplied by Applied, the Mobile, Ala., compounding pharmacy that was raided last fall by investigators.

Deaths in the WWE

Eddie Guerrero was 38 years old when he died. He died from a by an enlarged heart resulting from a history of anabolic steroid use. He was found in the coroner of his Minneapolis hotel room. The most recent wrestler to have a steroid related death is Chris Benoit. He was the affects of depression from steroids and “roid rage”. In his “roid rage” he took his wife and son’s life and hung him self. Its not just the steroids also it was the stress that he took from the wrestling life, which lead to trigger the steroids to be harm his mental rage. He also was pumping human growth hormone into his 7-year old son. They said they found needle marks on the boys arm. They found anabolic steroids in his basement.

A Mistake that Ruined the Olympics

In the 1964 Olympics steroids were used a lot. It started out that the Russians were dominating the Olympic games. Then one day the Russian coach got drunk and told the U.S. coach that there athletes were on steroids. The U.S. coach went to a lab and made a better steroid to beat them and they did.

High School

Now me being a on the football team always trying to get better and bigger everyday is what I do. But I do not take the road of any steroids out there. But it hasn’t crossed my mind once or twice. I know right now I know kids at my school who have taken steroids or are taking them now. The number of students who have admitted to taking steroids has doubled in five years. 6.1 percent in 2003 up from 3.1 percent in 1998, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Taylor Hooton was a baseball player who took steroids that were prescribed to him by his physiatrist. They said that when he went off the stuff he went threw depression which led him to hang him self. His parents went to congress to say that they believe there sons death is related to the use of steroids.

Some fun facts about the Olympics

Another set of athletes that dabble in steroids are the Olympic athletes. Aren’t they suppose to be the “pure” athletes? Ben Johnson was a sprinter in the 1988 Olympic games. The 100m was his race and when he the sound of the gun shot sounded he took off and broke the world record. 24 hours later he was tested positive for steroids. He was stripped of his gold metal. A fun fact I learned is that when Ben Johnson went to get his gold metal he didn’t celebrate at all. Also the man who go the metal when it was stripped, Carl Lewis was also tested positive for steroids. But they covered him up. In the movie “Bigger, Faster, Stronger” they have papers that say Carl Lewis failed his drug test. Another outstanding fact is that over 2000 U.S. athletes failed there drug test.

Anabolic Steroids in Teens

Steroids in teens are most of the time non-sports related. They are mostly used because of the appearance of the body when on them. Most teens want the big arms and big chest and the 6 pack to get the girls but a lot of them are to lazy to spend hours on end in the gym getting them, so they turn to steroids. I know there are teens at my school who are experiencing with steroids. But they know the dangers of them but they fail to know the way to uses them properly. They think one cycle of steroids will get them big when taking them you have to take around three or four till you see dramatic changes in your body. This is also bad because these teens think there making there body better but they are making it worse. They will get shorter cause taking steroids cause the growth plates to close.

Anabolic Steroids in Sports

When the world first heard athletes were taking anabolic steroids they were shocked. When Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson was found to have taken anabolic steroids he was revoked of his gold metal after the 1988 Olympic games. They are everywhere in sports now. Alex Rodriguez has taken them and admitted to it. Shawn Merriman in the year after winning the rookie of the year award he was found to have tested positive for anabolic steroids. The home run champ of baseball has been linked to a steroid called BALCO. There are many more steroid takers but here are just a few to show what the sports world has come to.

Testosterone

Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group. In mammals, testosterone is primarily secreted in the testes of males and the ovaries of females. Small amounts are also secreted by the adrenal glands. It is the principal male sex hormone and an anabolic steroid. In men, testosterone plays a key role in health and well being as well as in osteoporosis. On average, an adult human male body produces about forty to sixty times more testosterone than an adult female body, but females are from a behavioral perspective more sensitive to the hormone.

In Recent News

In recent steroids news Manny Ramirez was found to have testosterone four times the average male adult. They related his above average testosterone to a non-steroid drug called HGC. He was suspended for 50 games of the season because of this event. HGC is not a steroid but it is used after a cycle of steroids leading everyone to believe that he did steroids. It is made to re-start the normal testosterone after a cycle. He (Manny) said that he got the drug from a doctor because of a serious heath problem. That seems like a better excuse than the one New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez used when he was tested positive for two types of anabolic steroids during his years with the Texas Rangers. A little note that Texas is the steroid nation of the U.S. But Alex's excuse was that he was given a supplement for an injury by his cousin. Come on Alex your my favorite baseball player but you could have come up with a better excuse. But what done is done with.

Are Steroids Good for Sports?

The home runs in baseball, the big hits in football and the knock out punches in wrestling. Its what the fans pay for. But are all these big accomplishments part of hard work and good effort. Some can actually say yes they went threw all the gruelling practices and workout sessions. But as time goes on I'm starting to see that athletes are taking the easy way out by taking Anabolic Steroids. When I see players like Barry Bonds hitting his record setting 756 home run those same people who say steroids are bad and criticize him are now congratulating him for his amazing feet he has accomplished. The point I'm trying to make is that the people love seeing the ball being hit 500 feet. They'll except the fact that the sport is being rid of the things they used to be. In football what you go to the games is to see these big men go and lay "the wood" on players. Look at Lyle Alzado he was one of the baddest SOB's to play the sports. His source of it was steroids. So are steroids good for sports. It seems like it so.
